Warm Weather Activities
- Hiking and Boating
With an abundance of lakes and hiking trails, Plumas County is full of breathtaking views and endless adventure. For hiking enthusiasts, the Lakes Basin area offers some of the best terrain, leaving Lake Tahoe in the dust. There is everything from vigorous hikes, to short trips to view waterfalls or lookout points, we have it all. And don’t forget to ask about checking out the Feather River Country Adventure Trails book by Tom Demund at the front desk for 101 fun hikes in the area with maps and easy to follow directions. You can also come and explore Lake Davis in Portola, or the scenery of Frenchman Lake. Bring your boats, water-skis, kayaks, fishing poles and cameras for that adventure of a lifetime.
- Mountain Biking
Mountain biking off of Chalet View Lodge property is exceptional with a series of trails that take you down to the Feather River, or up to the Forest Service Lookout of Smith Peak and then down to Lake Davis. However, the Lakes Basin area including the Sierra Buttes is arguably the best in the world, in fact, when Shimano was introducing their new product line in 2010 they based out of Chalet View because their sponsored riders felt the Graeagle area offered unparalleled riding. The editors and writers from Chili, France, Argentina, Colorado and other far flung regions we’re blown away with the technicality, beauty and pristine condition of the trails. The highly acclaimed Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is responsible for spectacular rides such as the Downieville Downhill, Lakes Basin Trails and the Mills Peak Trail; mountain biking in Eastern Pumas County is truly epic. As our guest you can park your OHV at your room or cabin and head out toward the Feather River to rip up the motocross style track adjacent to the property, or head directly across State Highway 70 to a maze of Forest Service Roads that will take you to Canada on dirt via Smith Peak, Lake Davis, Quincy, Lake Almanor, Lassen Park and beyond.
